NFIB Announces Legislative Agenda for California

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 13, 2025—California’s largest and leading small business association today released its eight top legislative priorities for the recently commenced 2025-2026 session of the California State Legislature.

“No news can compete with our state’s collective worry – first and foremost – for the safety of our fellow citizens caught in the Los Angeles-area wildfires,” said John Kabateck, state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in California. “It is beyond gut-wrenching to see the devastation. Once it has been contained, we will need to come together quickly and establish state policies that speed up the re-building process. In the meantime, all of us need to see what we can do to help family, friends, and our fellow citizens cope in this hour tragedy.”

Helping to rebuild the communities devastated by wildfires is one of the top eight priorities of NFIB California. Seven others are:

Stabilize CA’s Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund and control system costs

Oppose all bills calling for higher minimum-wage rates

Repeal Senate Bill 553, requiring Workplace Violence Prevention Plans

Reject proposals mandating Beneficial Ownership reporting

Protect Proposition 36, voter-approved retail theft reforms

Repeal CARB regulations that conflict with federal standards

Oppose new mandates for paid leave.

“We will be advocating for or against many more bills than eight, but for the moment, these are the ones that command our immediate lobbying energies and will have our full attention for the entire two-year session,” said Kabateck.
